Questions on installing electric gates at your Dunfermline home or business - who will you ask?

In many cases, people who are seriously considering installing electric gates at a Dunfermline property have many, many questions but, finding the answer can be difficult.

Not any more, for we have gathered the questions and answers here:

Are electric gates prohibitively expensive?

Clearly there are budgetary considerations for many customers and electric gates can vary in price. The main varying factor in the cost of installing electric gates at a Dunfermline property will be the material used, along with any other additional work that needs completing at the time.

Are electric gates safe? What safety features do they have?

Modern electric gates installed at your Dunfermline home or business will have a whole host of safety features as standard:

  • Crush zones - there now needs to be adequate room left behind an open gate so that should someone be there are the gate opens, there is a safe place for them to stand, without behind crushed.
  • Sensors - gates also operate with sensors that detect if anything to anyone is in the way of a working gate. In order for a gate to keep working, the sensor need to have a direct line of sight, from one to another. If this beam is broken, it means something or someone is there and they will stop working.
  • Pressure sensitive - when the gates are closed, a lot of pressure needs to be exerted in order for the gates to be forced or prized open. However, when the gates are in operation, they need to be sensitive to pressure. Hence, if someone is in the way as the swing or slide open, placing pressure on them should stop them from working.

Do gates have to run via mains power?

There are some examples of electric gates being powered by solar panels. Solar energy and associated technology has increased in sophistication in recent years, with many panels now being so sophisticated that they gather and operate at full power, even on overcast, grey days. Many panels are also now specifically made for use in northern Europe, where solar energy and sunlight can be less than in southern Europe.

Some gates are also powered by hydraulics and water but, in the main, most electric gates installed at Dunfermline properties are powered by mains electricity.

What happens if power is lost?

Using solar energy negates this but, for those on mains power there is always an assumption that the gates cannot work if there is a power cut. Most electric gates come with an attached battery meaning that providing there is enough charge, the gates can be open and closed.
