Are electric gates prohibitively expensive?

Are electric gates safe? What safety features do they have?

Do gates have to run via mains power?

There are some examples of electric gates being powered by solar panels. Solar energy and associated technology has increased in sophistication in recent years, with many panels now being so sophisticated that they gather and operate at full power, even on overcast, grey days. Many panels are also now specifically made for use in northern Europe, where solar energy and sunlight can be less than in southern Europe.

Some gates are also powered by hydraulics and water but, in the main, most electric gates installed at Dunfermline properties are powered by mains electricity.

What happens if power is lost?

Using solar energy negates this but, for those on mains power there is always an assumption that the gates cannot work if there is a power cut. Most electric gates come with an attached battery meaning that providing there is enough charge, the gates can be open and closed.
